So, BiL and I for our birthdays this year both received tickets to see Wicked in San Fransisco! Obviously we were very excited and anxious to get to good ol' 'Sisco. I for one was especially thrilled because ever since my first visit to San Fransisco back when my family also visited the Redwood Forest, I've been completely smitten by it. I could have something to do with my bridge obsession. But that's a story for another time.
San Fransisco was amazing! It was so good to get away with just my parents and best friendster.
It started early Friday morning when my dad came into my bedroom to inform me that I basically needed to remove the liquids from my packed suitcase. That's when I found out we were flying! I was so excited!! I love flying. I did have to completely repack, but it was totally worth it. (I originally had a suitcase AND backpack packed...)
Everything about the airport experiences on this trip was an absolute ADVENTURE. Even if we HADN'T been delayed leaving SLC that morning, that statement would hold true. You see, sitting directly behind my parents, and well within earshot of EVERY PASSENGER ON THE PLANE was an extraordinary man. We proceeded to call him "The Double Agent" for the rest of the trip because not only was he heinously dressed, but I honestly think he is the most annoying man on the planet. Everything about him, his voice, his gawdy hawaiin shirt with tweed pants and jacket, the accessory daughter, and the subjects he chose to educate her on indicated - TO ME - that he must be someone VERY important in disguise because SURELY a human being like that does not exist naturally. He even farted (on the small 50 seater plane), which is only an added effect in my opinion.
Fisherman's Wharf was, of course, absolutely delightful and stunning. I LOVE that part of California so much!! We spent the remainder of Friday there and most of Saturday. I was able to convince my dad to take us girls to H&M since I had never been to one. As I have mentioned before, discovering an Urban Outfitters right next door was quite the happy moment for me. We shopped at both and then headed back to our room to get ready for WICKED!!!
Belle and I had both bought dresses at H&M so we decided to sport the twinster-fashion. I was dumb enough to forget to pack dress shoes. All I had taken were Vans so BiL, out of love and sisterly support rocked her charcoal grey chucks and I wore white Vans with my tights. It was awesome.
Okay, you all know what's coming. Wicked was incredible. I mean, INCREDIBLE. I had heard the music several times and even played a few tunes in orchestra back in the day, but I was most impressed by the humor. I thought it was all very clever and cute. I LOVED the story. If you EVER have the opportunity to see it, do not pass it up. It's a great show and totally worth it.
I LOVED IT.
We wrapped things up with a boat tour, which not only was BUTT COLD, but FOGGY. I love the San Fransisco fog, but not as much as I love the Golden Gate Bridge so I was a little sad at the fog for being all thick and what not. *shame* However, I thought the fog made up for being selfish by making Alcatraz all the more eerie when we made it over that way. We weren't able to do the actual Alcatraz tour since we went over the long weekend and people were flocking to the Wharf, but I was sufficiently creeped out none the less. Thanks fog!
Someday I'll visit Alcatraz. It's a fascinating part of our history and all the talk of its inmates got me thinking about Al Capone and the Prohibition. Nothing like a good trip to rev up the history-buff in me.
We did a million other really cool things like a wax museum and The Musee Mecanique (which was AWESOME!!!) but I'll save those for later.
Lastly, I would recommend you avoid flying in and out of the airport in San Fransisco. Haha. We spent WAY too much time in airports. We were only delayed for an hour or two in SLC, but we sat for a good six hours (flight delayed, delayed, delayed, delayed, cancelled, you'll have to fly out tomorrow in the later afternoon, no we won't refund your ticket, fog fog fog, standby, fog, standby, nap on the floor, OH WAIT! GET ON THIS PLANE NOW AND YOU'LL BE IN UTAH IN AN HOUR!!!). It was insane, but again, adventurous. Loved it. The fog in San Fran is really cool and I do find it strangely refreshing in the morning, but I doubt any plane leaves that airport before one or two in the afternoon.
I had a really good time and I'm so grateful we were able to go. GO SEE WICKED, EVERYONE!!!
